Queenslands Greenest and Healthiest School for 2011

Queensland’s Greenest and Healthiest School for 2011

Bulimba State School named top school

Bulimba State School in metropolitan Brisbane has been named the Keep Australia Beautiful’s   2011 Greenest and Healthiest School in Queensland.

Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland Chief Executive Officer, Rick Burnett said Bulimba State School was the outstanding school for 2011, having shown a commitment to “sustainability” and environmental and health issues across all the categories in the Green and Healthiest School program.

“Bulimba has been setting very high standards for many years, and this year has been rewarded with the top prize,” Burnett said.

“It is a philosophy within Bulimba school and its community that the issue of carbon ‘footprints’ starts with individual behaviour, and Bulimba illustrates that if we all work together, we can make a difference.

“Bulimba is a fine example to all schools in the way it cares for its local environment, the welfare of its community, and through its curriculum is teaching the importance of protecting the planet or future generations.”

Burnett said Bulimba had been a high performer in all categories.

The Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland “Green and Healthy Schools Program” started in 2000 and during its 11 years has had more than 300 Queensland schools registered.

The awards were presented at Parliament House today with the 2011 winning schools for their individual performances in each award category being:
