Tallebudgera Beach, QLD, wins the Australian Clean Beaches AwardsTallebudgera Beach has been named Australia's "Cleanest Beach" in the Keep Australia Beautiful, Australian Clean Beaches Awards 2010/11. Tallebudgera, on the Gold Coast, outshone entries from all States and the Northern Territory to also take out the Community Action and Partnerships; 'Dame Phyllis Frost' Litter Prevention and the Young Legends category awards. The awards were announced today in South Australia. The CEO of Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland, Rick Burnett, said the announcement was great recognition of the work done by the local community groups, volunteers, the Surf Life Saving Association and the Gold Coast City Council. "The partnerships and collaboration of people who care about their environment has been the reason for this success," Burnett said. "Tallebudgera is a magnificent natural beach environment, presented beautifully for locals and tourists to enjoy, for fun and recreation - it's an asset for all Queenslanders to be proud of." Burnett said the win would also help the current Tourism Queensland campaign to attract more visitors to our State. "You can't beat having the country's cleanest beach award," he said. The beach includes the waters of Tallebudgera Creek, linking the mountainous hinterland with the Pacific Ocean, with rocky outcrops, sandy shores, mangroves and dunes, as well as pristine waters for safe swimming and popular surfing breaks. According to the Australian Clean Beaches National Judge, Dr David Moy, Tallebudgera Beach is a well deserving winner of the national award due to the strong commitment to year-round positive action by a wide range of stakeholders. "Tallebudgera Beach definitely raises the benchmark for other urbanised coastal cities and shires," Dr Moy said. "The efforts of the local community, with strong support from the Gold Coast City Council, Griffith University's Coastal Management Centre, Tallebudgera Surf Life Saving Club and Education Queensland's Tallebudgera School, clearly demonstrates how communities working together can help protect their coastline and adopt to environmental and climate change issues."
