| Healthy Queensland State Winners Announced | |
Community, school and workplace winners in the Premier's 2009 Healthy Queensland Awards.

| HEALTHIEST COMMUNITY AWARD | |
There was a tie for the winner in the Healthy Communities Award category, as two entries were considered best practice examples of community-based healthy living initiatives that engaged the whole community, as follows: • Texas Visitors Association Inc - awarded $200,00 to upgrade their Healthy Food community kitchen and increase physical activity infrastructure in the community; and • Gladstone Regional Council - awarded $600,000 to continue their community engagement efforts and create All Ages Activity Areas within five communities in the Gladstone Region.
There was one highly commended entry for the Healthiest Community Award category, as follows: • Cook Shire Council- awarded $200,000 to install floodlights at their Cooktown sporting oval so the local community members can play sport in the cooler part of the day and enter regional competitions. This builds on their sustained 5-year efforts to meet the heatlhy lifestyle needs of the community.

The winner of the Healthiest School awardwas Emmanuel College on the Gold Coast for their ‘Emmanuel Active” activity reward initiative. Emmanuel College have been awarded $400,000 to cover their pool and enable sunsafe, year-round swimming as part of their physical activity incentives program.
There were three highly commended entries for the Healthiest School award category as follows:
• Trinity Beach State School - awarded $40,000 to further enhance their 'Bike-Bus' initiative to encourage physical activity and raise awareness in the local community, including development of a Road Safety Training area. • Logan Healthy Schools Alliance - awarded $30,000 to continue their collaborative, healthy school-community partnerships and initiatives promoting health in their 11 schools. • Shooting for the Stars Club - awarded $30,000 to further develop their inclusive inter-school activity club for students across their 21 schools in the Downs Education District.

| HEALTHIEST WORKPLACE AWARD | |
The winner of the HealthiestWorkplace award was Jellinbah Mining Pty Ltd for their Wellness Program offered to all employees and their families. Jellinbah Mining Pty Ltd have been awarded $35,000, with matched funding from Jellinbah and Ford Health, for research on how to further enhance the engagement of workers, which will inform the future development and targeting of their Wellness Program.
There were three highly commended entries for the Healthiest Workplace award category, as follows: • The University of Queensland - awarded $25,000 to continue encouraging physical activity at work with a web-based reminder and support system for their “Walk@Work” behaviour change program. • Townsville City Council - awarded $25,000 to further support their efforst in transforming their workplace through their healthier workplace initiative and Healthy Catering Guidelines. • Century Yuasa - awarded $15,000 seed funding to further enhance their healthy workplace program (which has included walking groups and cheap fruit and vegetable distribution, to date), towards their longer-term vision for establishing a staff gym.
