2009: The Year of Creativity for Queensland Schools

To celebrate 2009, the Year of Creativity in Queensland’s schools during Q150, Green & Healthy Schools will be encouraged to bury a time capsule, in the State’s sesquicentenary.

Your time capsule contents should capture your community creativity, using innovative ideas/concepts to produce an effective solution to preserving a lasting account of their community and recording of their project , in regards to; climate, environment, people, economy, community governance/leadership, news, aspirations and values of their community.

Ideally the Time Capsule would be bury on or near Queensland Day (6 June 2009), to celebrate Queensland 150th Birthday.

Schools could also win a $7000 Computerised Weather Station for their school.

The program also features a competition element to recognise and reward schools for their Green & Healthy endeavours.

Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland assessors take into account every school's geographic, environmental, cultural and economic circumstances, and assess how efficiently and effectively the school community uses the resources available to it against a range of criteria, including environmental protection, litter prevention, resource management, youth initiatives, health, nutrition and fitness, partnerships and school spirit.

Green & Healthy Schools encourages schools to work at their own pace to achieve outcomes relevant to their school and their school community.

The program rewards activities that tackle issues such as environmental protection, litter prevention, resource management, waterwise initiatives, youth initiatives, health, nutrition and fitness, and community partnerships and action.

Green & Healthy Schools operates throughout the school year and features a competition that culminates in Regional Awards and the State Awards at Parliament House in October.
